I
I met Julia at one of those infamous after-shows in dressing rooms. She already had a connection with some of Jovem Dionisio’s boys and attended our first show in Rio de Janeiro.
when we introduced ourselves, we exchanged compliments. I said that I loved the album “Sim Sim Sim” by Bala Desejo - which later came to win a Latin Grammy - and she said she had enormous admiration for the creative direction that the Jovem Dionisio has. she talked about the use of analog in audiovisual productions, about megalomaniacal ideas to promote “small” things, about unpretentiousness and “good taste”.
We exchanged our instagram accounts and started a “digital friendship” - can I call it that? After a while, I received a dm from her inviting me to shoot a series of “live sessions” for her solo album, “arrepiada”, which would be released a few months later.
We`ve made a first video call, in which the proposal grew: in fact, she needed a creative direction for the whole project, but she was concerned when it came to inviting me, thinking if my work was exclusive to the band or not.
I embraced the invitation and was eager to sign the direction of the entire visual conception.
From then on, we spoke daily. she shared the bounces for each track with me, and we discussed tracklist order, cover, and references.
In the second stage, we started outlining a launch strategy, schedules, how many clips and visualizers, and the meaning of everything.
I coordinated the pre-production and set up the necessary team for each sector.
Our most outstanding achievement was the video clip for “arrepiada”, shot entirely in 16mm along the coast of Rio. it definitely was the key piece of our campaign. it was the product that created the foundation for the rest. it was where we made her character born, the disc's logo and cover, the kv visual for the tour launch, and, in a way, the visual structure of the show itself.
in the end, I confess that, by far, the part that I liked most about all of this was gaining a friend just like her.
Connecting with talented and unique soul people, it's the best part of my job.
